Written by Blogtopia on 7:40 AM

Initial telecast is set on December 15 to 16, 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia's largest TV station, RCTI (which also hosts Indonesian Idol), will be the main TV station with the competition being broadcast live in the participating countries.

It will be hosted by Amelia Natasha and Daniel Mananta, both from Indonesian Idol.

The Performance Night of Asian Idol was taped last December 12 in Arena Pekan Raya Jakarta. This is to settle time zone differences as well as telecast dates. For instance, viewers in Vietnam will get to watch the show a day ahead.

The Idols are up against each others, now they are competing not for themselves but for their country and fans back home. Pressure is high as some idols sung in their own language, risking the thought that not everyone can understand or ever heard their song.

Two idols are said to be suffering from colds, Malaysian Idol Jaclyn Victor and Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo. Their was suppose to be a seventh idol from Kazakhstan, unfortunately they failed to send their representative. So they are down to six idols, Although one may wonder why there are only six idols, are there no idols for China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the other countries in Asia? Hopefully we'll see them on the next Asian Idol.

image Cikeas, Bogor (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received "Asian Idol" contestants at his private residence in Puri Cikeas Indah, Bogor, on Saturday evening.

The contestants, who will perform in Jakarta next week, were accompanied by private TV station RCTI President Director Harry Tanoesoedibjo.

Accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the head of state received five of the six contestants because the sixth, Abhijeet Sawant from India, had yet to arrive in Jakarta.

The five Asian Idol contestants received by President Yudhoyono were Jaclyn Victor from Malaysia, Hady Mirza from Singapore, Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Vy from Vietnam, Mau Marcelo from the Philippines and Michael Prabawa Mohede alias Mike from Indonesia.

On the occasion, Yudhoyono expressed hope that the presence of the Asian Idol contestants in Jakarta would reflect the good cooperation in cultural exchanges in Asia.

To the contestants, the president said all Indonesian people would definitely appreciate their performance on TV when they sang from their hearts.

The Asian Idol festival, according to the president, would be able to support peace, cooperation and mutual understanding among Asian nations.

Reminiscing about his days as a youth, President Yudhoyono told the contestants that when he was in senior high school he joined a band and had until today continued to contribute to the musical world through songs.

He recently released an album of 10 songs which he had composed.

Besides the First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the president on the occasion was also accompanied by Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh, Presidential spokesmen Andi Malarangeng and Dino Patti Djalal, and Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

They then took a few minutes of their time to sing the song "Save Our Planet" which was also composed by the president.

The same song is also expected to be sung later at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference in Nusa Dua Bali.

The Asian Idol contestants are scheduled to perform twice at the Asian Idol Performance Show on Saturday, December 15, and the Asian Idol Result Show on Sunday, December 16.
